I just had a piece done on my leg last week that I wanted to share!

This is my tribute to Livvie, the dog who changed my life.
The tattoo goes from my left knee to near my ankle.
It was done by Michael Patrick with Jester's Court, Pittsburgh PA.
It took 3 hours and 40 minutes.

I realized that this will be the first of a collage of things to come on this leg.

I'm happy to have found this group!

I’m a graduate student in English studies at Auburn University, and I am doing a research project on the narrative of tattoos. I’m particularly interested in first-hand stories (what was your source of inspiration, why that specific design/placement, why get the tattoo at all?), and even more specifically in the stories of people who got tattoos in response to a life trauma. I have started looking at accounts of women who chose to tattoo over their mastectomy scars instead of getting reconstructive surgery; these stories are of particular interest to me.

But if you have the time, I would appreciate a quick response to the questions I listed above:
1. What is your tattoo of?
2. Why did you get the tattoo? What inspired you?
3. Why did you choose this design, and why is it where you chose to put it?
4. In your opinion, why do people get tattoos in response to life experiences?

Also, if you are willing, I would love to include photographs of your tattoo in my project. My only request is that the photograph is of good quality (so I can see the design and colors easily) and of appropriate material (i.e., not pornographic). I intend to include photographs of tattoos in the appendix of my paper, which will be viewed by faculty of Auburn University and possibly turned in for publication. Posting a picture of your tattoo is your permission for its possible inclusion in my paper.

I will use your LiveJournal username as your handle for my paper, unless you instruct me to do otherwise.
